What the Government isn't telling us about the charges - They say that the existing system takes €1.2 billion annually to run - Irish water state they will invest €400 million - divide that by the population 4.6 million = €350 per year for every man woman and child in the country for Irish Water to become financially independent of the Government - which is their stated goal - so when Irish Water reach their Goal the average family in Ireland will probably be paying around €2,000 per year....! So make no mistake if they get away with this now we will pay dearly in the future...! It's the metering that's key - the promises of caps on bills will cost the government dearly but they have to get the meters installed and people paying their bills - the EU will turn a blind eye as it will be illegal but they will allow it until they get Irish Water bedded in...! - but they have to get the country metered to be able to reach their Goal..! They're also not saying much about their intent to sell out surplus water overseas - so another Win Win for metering - the less we use the more they have to sell abroad - and we'll be the people paying for the repairs to the leaks so they will also have that to sell abroad....! - and believe me - if your paying €2 - 3,000 per year you'll probably have to do with a lot less - regardless of whether you were wasting water or not - because Irish Water will remove allowances and adjust their pricing - to achieve their Goal...!

Good to see that there was no intimidation towards the ground workers on the protest. I agree with the right of the people to protest but find it sickening when the anger that should be directed towards the government and the elite that set up IW is taking out on ordinary joe soaps trying to earn a weeks wages. After all, these workers are important to their families who they are trying to support and probably don't want to get involved in violent arguments.
